A group of Estonian investors with a long-term forestry and wood industry experience is considering building a modern and environmentally sound bioproducts mill in Estonia. The planned 1 billion investment would be the largest ever industrial investment made in Estonia. According to initial plans, the mill would launch production in year 2022. The biomill would be designed with the best technology available (BTA) following the stringent requirements set by the detailed planning and environmental complex permit. After completion, it would be the most modern and unique biomill in Europe. The modern mill with ca 700 000 ton annual production capacity would be able to launch production after a meticulous and transparent planning and environmental permitting application process. The planned project would create long-term benefits for Estonia, moving Estonian forestry industry to a new level and improving the sector’s sustainability. As a raw material, the mill would annually use approximately 3 million m3 of paper wood and wood chips. The production of the biomill would be different wood based products. During the production process, all byproducts would be processed into an organic matter and green energy. During the analyses and research stage, the investors are planning to collaborate with all interest groups, scientific communities and potential co-investors to ensure that the mill’s construction, technology and operation would be in accord with the environmental requirements, be social-economically sustainable and in concord with the interest of the Estonian society.
